Five killed in fresh cult clashes in Rivers state

At least, five people have been reportedly killed in fresh cult clashes at Omudiogwa community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that armed cultists invaded Omudioga, Wednesday night in search of members of a rival group, killing at least five people, including one who was beheaded.

Omudioga Youth President, Chinyere Amadi said The Ezeka Nwadike and Prince Omata were among those killed.
Amadi said the community has been deserted as inhabitants seek refuge elsewhere in the absence of security operatives.
In another development, one person has been reportedly killed while several others sustained bullet wounds in clashes in Akabuka town in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.
A source from the community told newsmen that trouble started when a suspected cult leader returned home for the first time after he was granted amnesty by the Rivers State Government.
Our source said the presence of the returnee cult leader sparked an argument between members of his group and a rival gang, which later resulted in sporadic shooting yesterday evening.
Men of Joint Military Task Force have since been deployed in Akabuka town to calm the situation.

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo reacts to $5million Ponzi investment fraud, says he’s not directly involved

KICC Head Pastor, Matthew Ashimolowo has reacted to news that made the rounds late last year that he was involved and defrauded of $5million he invested in a Ponzi scheme. Read the statement he released yesterday below...
“The attention of Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and KICC has been drawn to publication in the media with the headline: ‘Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo loses $5million to Ponzi Scheme’.

“We wish to state that the headline was unfortunate and misleading and has caused damage to the reputation of Pastor Ashimolowo. The sensational headline suggests that Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo lost $5million when INFACT HE DID NOT and did not make the decision to invest.
“Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo is the Senior Pastor of KICC and not her trustee and has never been a trustee of KICC.
“As you are aware from the Charities Commission’s report, the decision to invest was solely that of the U.K trustees without any involvement of Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo.
“Importantly as the report states, it is the trustees who have the responsibility for investing Charity Funds and NOT PASTOR MATTHEW ASHIMOLOWO.
“The investment referred to were made by former trustees on behalf of the Charity over SEVEN AND HALF YEARS AGO. They believed they were acting in the best interest of the Charity and they did not and have not benefited personally.
“Their actions were totally independent and were not influenced in any way by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo.
“KICC is a Charity whose main aim is to advance the Christian religion in the U.K. and around the world as well as provide local communities with a great deal of counseling and support, including educational, bereavement and prayer support.”

Nigerian Army will capture Shekau in 2017 – Bishop Fomson

                Abubakar%20Shekau%20Boko%20Haram%202

The leader of the Northern Inter-Faith and Religious Organisations for Peace, Bishop Musa Fomson, has predicted the end of Boko Haram kingpin, Abubakar Shekau.
The cleric said Shekau would be captured alive and brought to Abuja by the Nigerian army.

In his New Year message yesterday, Bishop Fomson said: “The Nigerian Army will take Shekau captive the same way the terrorists leader had taken Nigerians captive. Shekau’s shame will be great as he would be brought to Abuja for Nigerians to come and see for themselves that the last of the bearers of the title of ‘Shekau’ has met his end because he mocked God and the peace he has ordained for Nigeria.
“Those who secretly support the terrorists while pretending to be patriotic citizens would finally be exposed except they find ways of cutting support to Boko Haram and turn to the path of repentance. Their gang up against the peace of Nigeria is not pleasing to God and the cries of Nigerians to their maker would not go unanswered in the year.”
He added: “Even as God liberates Nigerians from terrorists on one hand, they will also be emancipated economically as the Almighty would restore what the people think they have lost multiple folds like he did to Job in the Bible.
“The upheaval within dominant political parties would however prove impossible to resolve. Top politicians will abandon the APC to make way for new entrants that will show unparalled eagerness to take over the position of those that would leave.
“My counsel is that even in the midst of these visions of abundance, Nigerians must declare a week of national fast and prayers seek the face of God so that the good things can come to pass while any untoward possibilities are averted. We must also repent of all our sins.”
The Bishop also said: “Nigerians complained about what they thought was the reversal in their economic fortunes but 2017 is the year they would realize that the words of Ecclesiastic 3:3 (A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up.) are true and would not pass away without fulfillment.
“Mr President had spent the past time killing corruption that had threatened to kill Nigerians and 2017 is the year in which he shall fulfill his divine mandate to heal Nigeria from the ravages of the cancer of corruption. He has disrupted and torn down the reign of impunity and all the faulty foundations holding this country back; this year is the year in which he would build enduring institutions and systems that would establish a regime of fairness and equity for all Nigerians.”

UK Rolls Out New Visa Application Process for Nigerians

The United Kingdom has adopted a new visa application process for Nigerians, British High Commission on Friday announced.

Spokesperson of the commission, Joe Abuku, said the new process is only a bit different from the previous one.
The new process, which takes effect from December 5 for customers applying for a UK visa in Lagos, Victoria Island and Ikeja, would bring applicants benefits from digital improvements to the UK visa application process.
“TLSContact (responsible for UK Visa Application Centres in Nigeria) will scan your supporting documents whilst you’re at the visa application centre, and then return your original documents to you,” the statement said.
“They will then send these (electronic) documents to UKVI, with your passport and application form, and visa officers will consider your application in the usual way.
In order to avoid delays in the visa application centre, the Commission requested applicants to ensure they complied with requirement to provide all documents in A4 size, while any other documents smaller or larger than A4 should be photocopied onto A4 sized paper.

Edith Benedict Speaks on Sexual Violation and Why it Should Stop

Edith Benedict is an African lady as she proudly calls herself. Talk admirable virtues and that would be a perfect attribute to her personality.

The talent is a creative mind with the goodness of humanity as her priority.

She says:

"Well, if you ask me about my priority, I am going to say that seeing people live with their full rights and the hope of achieving their dreams and enjoying it is my priority. Maybe I should have said husband and children if I had one yet...lol, but since the case is different, I discovered that I have a family out here, the world"

Edith is so keen to helping lives and her present project is one out of many. When asked why she is going all the way out for her project on sexual violation especially in children,  she said:

“we just do not understand how much these kids go through being in that situation, especially in the world where a problem shared today makes the news headline tomorrow. This is a very traumatizing experience and living in it has led to more situations worse than the former. When these child victims grows to adults, they tend to have a different view about life totally and that is why we are working so hard towards the extinction of such act and also rehabilitate the victims. This project is rootedly more focused on the victims (to stand up from that agony and move on  with a positive view on achieving life expectations and dreams)”

On whether she was a victim of such...

“Now I am not surprised at that question because I get it a lot. That just happens to be the first question that comes after pouring out my heart towards this project. Well, I am not...but maybe we could say that the total team of this project (Team Survived and every individual that would support this effort) are all standing in for the victims and that includes me and you.”

This is really a project that I think everyone out there should be part of.

Just consider the “what ifs” and Join Edith Benedict to show some love to the world.

Save a life today!

Toke Makinwa's Dress For Her Book Lunch was Her Choice, for Herself, not for You.

A Nigerian life, is an African Life and the last time i valued, Africa is a country with norms and cultural values. In Africa, there are a stipulated ways of doing literally everything and going out of that line just makes one, and whatever he/she does inappropriate.

Popular Lagos OAP and socialite, Toke Makinwa, finally released her latest book, “On Becoming“, in which she shared the heartbreaking story of her break-up with her estranged husband, Maje Ayida, in a star-studded launch in Lagos on Sunday night.
The celebrity television host who shared her incredible survival story, and private and intimate details of her love life in the book, took to her Instagram page and posted a photo before the event which shows her wearing a slit-open dress which many people criticised.

                    Toke's book

The photo of the slit-open dress made rounds on social media as many branded it ‘very inappropriate’ for the occasion of a book launch.
Below are comments and mixed reactions we culled from popular Instagram platform;

Toke's dress is moderate compared to what some of our hollywood sweethearts and songstresses wear to events and awards. The likes of  Rihanna (our Riri), Beyonce , Angelina Jolie, Nicki Minaj etc wear unthinkable dresses or "see throughs" and yet we adore them and defend them, using the word "they are into show biz"

You that takes your time to write about Toke, didn't you consider her kind of profession and what she feels that it would take her to get to her expectations? Good!

Everyone has a way of reaching their Zenith and that's just one of it. She felt that was lit for her occasion and i am sure her guests enjoyed her that way...lol

So, lets just focus on our own lives and life's issues. Do you have a book yet? or your social media criticisms are all you've got?.  why don't you LUNCH something tomorrow(even if it's kids novel) and then show us the APPROPRIATE way of doing things using yourself as an example.

Yes, this is a challenge and i hope to see how that would be handled by you @_bebe107 and her co critics

Film-Maker, Seun Egbegbe, Spends Second Day in Police Cell

Contrary to a report credited to Seun Egbegbe that he was neither arrested nor beaten by any mob, PUNCH Metro gathered on Wednesday afternoon that the film-maker was still in police custody.
Egbegbe was mobbed on Tuesday for allegedly stealing nine iPhones, after which he was taken to the Area F Command in Ikeja.
It was learnt that the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had visited the Area F Command, where Egbegbe was being detained, and was briefed on the investigation.
Egbegbe’s problem started at the Computer Village, Ikeja, after he was accused of stealing the iPhones from a shop.
After buying the phones, he reportedly told a sales boy in the shop that he wanted to pick money from his vehicle outside. He allegedly attempted to escape with the phones in the waiting jeep when the sales boy raised the alarm.
However, he was said to have told the police that he wanted to pick the money when the sales boy screamed for help and alerted the mob.
But Egbegbe on Wednesday denied the incident.
The statement, which was credited to him and went viral, stated that he was neither arrested nor beaten up by any mob.
The statement read, “The story is pretty laughable and better left in the court of public opinion. Ordinarily, I do not want to join issues with the writer of the publication, but I have a responsibility to set the records straight for my fans, friends and foes, in the defence of the truth.
“To say the least, the news did not only grossly misinform unsuspecting public; it also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary hell bent on destroying my name, for reasons best known to them.
“I want to state here categorically and emphatically that though I was at the Computer Village to address some issues, I was never arrested for stealing 10 iPhone 7s, as stated by the writer of the story. The matter has since been resolved by the police; and the issue of me stealing phone is devilish from the said writer.
“It is germane to note that I am a charitable, humane, and grass root person, who has exhibited selflessness in communal service, which have used as a veritable tool for social development.
“Finally, I wish to inform the general public to discard the report. I am presently at home relaxing.”
However, a police source at the command told our correspondent at about 3pm on Wednesday that the film-maker was still being held for interrogation.
The source said, “He (Egbegbe) is still in our custody. His associates have been debunking the allegation. He is still in detention. The CP even came to interrogate him this afternoon (Wednesday).”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said Egbegbe was still under investigation in the command, adding that the public would be informed on the outcome of the investigation on Thursday (today)
She said, “The case is still under investigation. We will properly brief the press on the stand of the command on the case by tomorrow (today).”
Commenting on the online statement, the PPRO said, “You are aware that he was arrested. If an online publication is saying he was not arrested, and the police said he was arrested, which one do you want to believe?”

Lagos State Government Cancels Monthly Environmental Sanitation

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced the termination of the monthly environmental sanitation following a resolution to review the environmental laws and procedures in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, said in a statement in Lagos that the resolution was reached at the State Executive Council meeting which approved review of the state environmental laws.

Ayorinde said that this informed the decision to cancel the monthly exercise held on the last Saturday of every month for three hours.

He said that the review of the environmental laws and procedures was necessary to meet the present day challenges and to promote a clean and healthy environment.

The commissioner said that with the nation’s present economic situation, it was no longer appropriate to restrict people’s movement for three hours in a mega city like Lagos.

“In the last two decades, Lagos has grown exponentially into a mega city with the attendant huge environmental problems associated with managing a population of over 21 million people,” he said.

The commissioner decried the environmental laws, policies and procedures being practiced in the state, saying that it has not been able to match the phenomenal growth and the dream of a 24-hour economy.

“The state government is not unaware of a recent court of appeal judgment.

The present economic climate can no longer support the continued lock down of a mega city like Lagos, when the citizens should be free to engage in commercial and entrepreneurial activities that can promote economic growth.

The thrust of the fresh initiatives, among others, is to promote holistic and modern solutions to the unique environmental challenges confronting the state.

Furthermore, government will also accelerate the introduction of fresh reforms through the passage of new harmonised environmental laws that will drive meaningful changes.

Changes in areas of harmonised billing, waste management, modern landfill sites, noise pollution, introduction of an environmental trust fund and an environmental advisory council.

The government wishes to reiterate its strong commitment to a clean and secure the environment for the benefit of its citizens.

And will continue to provide the necessary leadership to meet the environmental challenges of a mega city like Lagos.

Residents and visitors alike are, therefore, urged to embrace these changes and imbibe a culture of voluntarily maintaining and preserving their environment to create a beautiful and healthy city that we all can be proud of,” he said.

Ayorinde said that the state government would henceforth be tougher in ensuring enforcement against contraventions of its policies and regulations.

He urged residents to voluntarily comply with the necessary laws and support government in its bid to have a clean and healthy environment.
